Duck Creek - It had been a record breaking wet spring in 1949, with constant rainstorms keeping the ground saturated. Then on June 13, a torrential downpour began that lasted 12 hours. Large areas of Garland were soon under water. The overwhelming deluge turned cotton and onion fields into creeks, and creeks into surging rivers of broken trees and rubbish. The water swept away four people from three different locations and carried them into Duck Creek where their bodies were eventually found lying together on the creek bank just south of the I-30 bridge.
